Ways to Cope Up With BED

Many people with BED find it difficult to cope up with the condition. Since food is the basic necessity for survival, you cannot completely avoid it. However, you must learn to understand your nutritional requirements and avoid the unnecessary urges and temptations to eat food. Here are some ways to cope up with BED.

Manage Your Stress

Stressful events in life are often a major cause for the binge eating episodes. Try to find alternate ways such as exercise, relaxation, talking and discussing with a friend, getting involved in hobbies, to deal with your stress.

Schedule Your Meals

Skipping a meal can cause reduction in blood sugar levels and may often lead to binge eating. It is recommended that you should schedule your meal times such as eating a proper breakfast in the morning, a balanced lunch and dinner, andhealthy snacks in between.

Avoid Temptations

Food items such as junk food, desserts, and unhealthy snacks may tempt you to start binge eating. Therefore get rid of all such food items, store only healthy foods in your fridge and storages so that you will be able to control your binge eating.

Stop Excessive Dieting

The energy and sugar deprivation that occurs due to excessive dieting can trigger binge eating. Consider eating moderate amounts of food rather than excessive dieting. Find nutritious foods that you enjoy and eat only until you feel content.

Keep a Food Diary

Write down your eating patterns. Note down how you feel, how much and what you eat. This will help you and your HCP to understand the connection between your mood and eating habits.
